Rick Jay – Copper flowers
Rick is a metal sculpture artist and is back by popular demand. He worked for many years out west and up north on the pipeline. He has studied under many smiths at the John C. Campbell Folk School and has studied flower making with Clay Spencer, Dorothy Stiegler and Judy Berger. You will create your own copper flower during this course with Rick. This class is limited to 10 students and material fee of $35.
Judi Chavers – Toothbrush rugs
Judi says she should have been born 100 years earlier but we are so proud that she is around now and she loves to share her talents. Judi has learned basket making, broom tying, drop spindle spinning but her main hobby is spinning. She has taught classes for University of Florida Bay County Extension. She learned how to make tooth brush rugs at her first trip to Madison for conference. This has been eight or ten years ago, and I still love making rugs! Classes are three hours long, you will not complete a rug, but you can expect to at least complete a trivet for your kitchen. This is a very inexpensive hobby-.no tools to purchase, your "needle" will come with your kit and the best thing to make rugs from is recycled sheets! (cheap at thrift stores!)She has taught tooth brush rugs for FABA, basket weaving for AL Forge Council, and faux jade jewelry for SBA. Class is limited to 10 students. Material fee is $12.
Mitz Bazzell – Stained glass art project
Mitz teaches at William Holland in Young Harris, GA and at past Florida Artist Blacksmith Association and Southern Blacksmith Conferences. Showing at GAHA Gallery, in Home Depot Headquarters. This Stained Glass class is a beginner’s class for people with no to little experience. You will cut a piece of glass for your project, grind edge, copper foil, assemble your project and solder. Everyone will be making the same project which is a round brass ring with copper vine, leaves and flowers (Color varies). Eye Protection, closed toe shoes, jeans or towel to drape over lap, cotton shirt or apron. Class size is 8 students. $15 material fee.
Lisa Anne Conner - Wire and Bead Jewelry
Lisa Anne has been making jewelry since those heady days of stringing pasta for gifts during kindergarten class. Metal manipulation and chain-maille knitting began in high school as a natural offshoot to her interest in Renaissance Faires, the Society for Creative Anachronism and theatrical fight choreography. In 1986, Lisa Anne discovered that fire and metal *do* mix and has been happily hammering ever since. This hands-on, “make-it-and-take it” class will utilize various metal wires, beads of all sorts, and “found objects” to create fun, wearable jewelry. No experience in metal manipulation required! This class is best suited for ages 7 and up. All tools and materials are included for in-class projects. Note: If you have fun doo-dads that you would like to include in your jewelry, bring them! Broken chains of all sorts & materials are especially useful. Class size is limited to 8 students. $5.00 Materials Fee
Jeff Mohr – Broom Tying
In 1976 Jeff started to study the craft of broom tying with a Carolina craftsman. After mastering the basic skills, he began participating in various arts and crafts shows. Though these shows, Jeff had the opportunity of tying brooms to other blacksmith’s handles. In 1981 Jeff picked up a hammer, Blacksmiths and broom makers benefited from this move. Jeff and Brooke will be teaching. Class size is limited to 12 students. Materials fee $20.
